Cacimba do Padre
Cacimba do Padre is a long stretch of sand with Morro Dois Irmãos in the background. From November to March it gets the waves that made it the most famous surf break on the island; the rest of the year it is much gentler.
How to get to Cacimba do Padre
Cacimba do Padre is on the Mar de Dentro, past Boldró. Follow the dirt road, stop at the parking area at the top and walk a short way down.
Car, buggy or taxi all work. Taxis have a fixed price per trip, between R$ 28 and R$ 60. Compare the options in getting there and around.
Surfing at Cacimba do Padre
Cacimba is Noronha's best-known surf break, called the "Brazilian Hawaii" by the island's Administration. It hosted the Hang Loose Pro Contest, a world qualifying tour event, from 2000 to 2012 and in 2019, 2020 and 2023.
The waves arrive with North Atlantic swells from November to March, peaking from December to February. It is a beach break with sandbars that peel both left and right, plus an outside reef that holds waves over 3 m on the biggest days. It usually works best on a higher tide with the southeast wind, which blows offshore.
In season the waves are hollow and powerful, with rip currents: this is a break for experienced surfers. Even if you don't surf, watching the sets roll in from the sand, with Dois Irmãos behind, is worth the trip.
The rest of the year the sea is gentler and good for swimming. With kids, choose those months and stay out of the water on big-wave days. See the breaks, safety tips and how to check the day's conditions in the guide to surfing in Fernando de Noronha.
Best time and what to bring
Go in the morning or late afternoon. The sunset here is beautiful, with Dois Irmãos on the horizon.
There are simple beach stalls and little shade. Bring a beach umbrella or a light tent, water, a hat and a UV shirt.
Cacimba doesn't require the Park ticket. You only need it if you continue to Baía dos Porcos.
What to combine on the same day
Cacimba is the starting point for Baía dos Porcos, about 170 m over the rocks, which only opens at low tide. Combine the two in the same part of the day.
At low tide you can also walk along the sand to the almost deserted Bode, Quixabinha and Americano beaches.
