How to book the trails

Buy the Park ticket first, because it unlocks booking. If you bought it online, you book online. You can also book at the Visitor Center, from 8am to 7pm.

Spots are daily and limited. On some days of the month, certain trails are reserved for residents. Book as soon as the schedule opens, as we explain in fees and tickets.

Capim-Açu, Pontinha to Caieira and Morro São José require an accredited guide. The short Atalaia trail has a monitor. See the pool in Praia da Atalaia and the long trail in Caieiras and Pontinha.

What to bring and rules

  • Footwear: closed shoes or sturdy sport sandals.
  • Water: at least 1 liter per person.
  • Hat that stays firmly on, because it gets very windy.
  • Timing: before 9am or after 3pm.

Respect the signs and never leave the marked trail. Don't hike alone and let someone know when you plan to return.

On coastal trails, check the tide table. In strong wind, avoid exposed trails and Piquinho. Cell signal is weak or nonexistent.

Trails with children and in your itinerary

With children, stick to the viewpoint boardwalks and Forte do Sueste. Capim-Açu, Pontinha to Caieira and Morro São José are not suitable for them.

The long trails are worth it if you stay 9 days or more. In the ready-made itineraries, they go on the extra days, with the afternoon free to rest.

DF

We did this

We split the day into 5 blocks, with a break from 1:30 to 3pm. This rhythm suits the trails: walk early, stop during the heat and head out again in the late afternoon.
