What the Caieiras and Pontinha trail is like

Caieiras and Pontinha are on the Mar de Fora and can only be visited on the Pontinha to Caieira trail. It's about 3.7 km over difficult terrain, with rocks and direct sun.

The area has a jagged coastline, seabirds and hidden natural pools. It's empty scenery, very different from the beaches with facilities.

Booking and guide

The trail requires the Park ticket, booking and an accredited guide. Book online, if you bought the ticket online, or at the Visitor Center, from 8am to 7pm.

Spots are limited and, on some days of the month, certain trails are reserved for residents. See all the rules on the Noronha trails page.

Tide, timing and what to bring

Set off early and at low tide. High tide blocks stretches of the coastal trails and rescue is difficult. Check the tide table the day before.

  • Closed-toe shoes, essential on the rocks.
  • Water, at least 1 liter per person, and more if it's hot.
  • A hat that stays on, because it's very windy.
  • Snacks, since there's nothing to buy.

Only go when the tide and weather are favorable. If it's very windy, choose another outing.

Who it's worth it for

It's worth it if you're staying 7 days or more and enjoy hiking. With only a few days, prioritize Sancho, Atalaia and the boat trip.

In the 9-day itinerary, it comes in as an alternative to Capim-Açu, with the afternoon free to rest. See the ready-made itineraries.

It's not an outing for babies or small children. Older kids only if they're well prepared; confirm the rule when booking.
