Baía do Sueste

Baía do Sueste is a sheltered cove on the Mar de Fora, with mangroves, calm water and turtles nearby. It's the easiest Park beach for families.

How to get to Baía do Sueste

Baía do Sueste is on the Mar de Fora, in the south of the island. The road is paved all the way to the Sueste PIC, the Park station where you validate your ticket.

You can go by car, buggy, taxi or bus. The bus costs about R$ 5 and links the Porto to Sueste, but it runs every 30 to 45 minutes and rarely accepts cards.

From the parking lot to the sand the walk is short. There is a ramp and a boardwalk, which makes Sueste the most accessible facility in the Park.

Snorkeling with turtles

The water is calm and shallow, with turtles and young lemon sharks often around.

Heads up: Snorkeling at Sueste depends on ICMBio approval: it was suspended in December 2022 because of tiger sharks, and the Park's official page currently says the beach is open for viewing only. Some agencies still advertise the tour. Check at the Sueste PIC on the day.

You can rent gear at the PIC. Bring your own mask and snorkel if you can: you'll use them every day. A long-sleeved UV shirt protects better than sunscreen, which comes off in the water.

Don't touch or chase the animals. In 2025 a tourist was fined R$ 10 mil for touching a turtle.

With kids and babies

It's one of the island's best wildlife experiences for kids. The PIC has toilets, a snack bar and shade, something rare on Noronha's beaches.

With a baby, go early and head back before the strong heat, between 10am and 3pm. A carrier or sling works better than a stroller. See more in Noronha with kids.

What to combine on the same day

Praia do Leão is nearby and makes a classic pair in one afternoon. The short Forte do Sueste trail, about 560 m, starts at the PIC and shows the bay and the mangroves from above.

Sueste is also the Plan B when the Mar de Dentro has swell or when it's very windy, because it's sheltered. Check the ideal days in when to go.

To eat, besides the PIC snack bar, the area has pousada restaurants that require booking, such as Pousada Maravilha and TiaTê, at NANNAI.

We did this

With the baby, our rule was simple: sea outing in the morning, a long break in the heat from 1:30pm to 3pm and just one light outing at the end of the day.
