Morro do Pico
Morro do Pico is the highest point of Fernando de Noronha, at 323 m, and can be seen from almost the whole island. You can't climb to the top, but Piquinho gets close.
Where to see Morro do Pico
Morro do Pico is the postcard image visible from almost the whole island. The best spots to see it up close are in the Vila and on the Mar de Dentro beaches.
Praia da Conceição has a long stretch of sand at the foot of the Pico. It is the easiest sunset on the island, with bars and a short trip back to the pousada.
Praia do Meio also has the hill as a backdrop.
Piquinho trail
You can't climb the Pico. The trail up Morro do Piquinho, next to it, is a community trail, short and steep, with about 400 m of ascent. From the top, the island lies at your feet.
No ticket or booking is needed, but a guide is recommended. Wear sturdy shoes, bring water and a hat that stays firmly on.
In strong wind, avoid Piquinho and other exposed trails. Don't hike alone and let someone know when you plan to return.
Sunrise and sunset at Piquinho
Piquinho works for both moments. At sunrise, you watch the whole island light up. In the late afternoon, it is the adventurous option for sunset.
The sun sets around 5:30 to 6pm, island time. The best color usually comes 10 to 15 minutes later. See other spots in Noronha tips.
For adrenaline seekers, there is also rappelling at Piquinho.
With children
The climb is steep and only suitable for older children. With a baby or young children, enjoy the Pico from the sand at Conceição, which has facilities and a calm sea most of the year.
In the 9-day itinerary, sunset at Piquinho wraps up the day of the long trail. See it in itineraries.
