Vila dos Remédios is the historic center of Fernando de Noronha: church, fort, bars and restaurants, almost all within walking distance. It is also one of the most practical areas to stay.

What to see in Vila dos Remédios

Vila dos Remédios holds the island's history. The main sights:

  • Igreja de Nossa Senhora dos Remédios, from 1772.
  • Palácio São Miguel, seat of the District Administration.
  • Memorial Noronhense.
  • Forte Noronha, the former Forte dos Remédios, from 1737, with a museum and sunset.

The historic walk through the Vila is about 2 km long, easy and requires no booking.

Beaches and outings on foot

From the Vila you walk down to Praia do Cachorro, by a staircase, and continue to Meio and Conceição. Go at low tide, when the natural pools appear.

The strong sun and the slopes are tiring. Go out early or in the late afternoon and bring water.

Where to eat

The Vila has options for every budget. Mãezinha, with food by weight, and Tapioca da Babalu are good for a quick lunch. O Pico and Na Moita are casual and good for families.

Is it worth staying in the Vila?

For many people, yes. Staying in Vila dos Remédios or Floresta Nova cuts transport costs, because you can do a lot on foot. The airport is about 2 km away.
