How to get to Praia do Cachorro

Praia do Cachorro is at the end of Vila dos Remédios. You go down a staircase next to Bar do Cachorro.

If you're staying in the Vila, walk. The beach doesn't require the Park ticket.

Buraco do Galego and the tide

At low tide Buraco do Galego and Lasca da Velha appear, two natural pools famous for photos.

Go on the ebb tide to find Buraco do Galego full and without waves. At high tide, the sea covers almost the whole strip of sand.

Going to Cachorro at high tide is a common mistake. Check the tide table every day before planning your outing.

With kids and babies

It works with kids, with care on the staircase. With a baby it's possible, preferably in a carrier, which handles sand and steps better than a stroller.

There is little shade. Bring a snorkel mask, water and a hat, and avoid the sun between 10am and 3pm with little ones.

Where to eat and what to combine

Bar do Cachorro is up top, serves lunch and has music at night. In the Vila there are options like Mãezinha, with pay-by-weight food. See more in where to eat.

On foot, continue to Praia do Meio and Praia da Conceição to end with the sunset.
