Forte Noronha (former Forte dos Remédios)

Forte Noronha is the former Forte dos Remédios, reopened with an immersive museum, sunset with music and a restaurant. It is paid and works very well as a Plan B.

What Forte Noronha is

Forte Noronha is the current name of the former Forte de Nossa Senhora dos Remédios. Built in 1737, it is the largest Portuguese fort on the island and still dominates the landscape of Vila dos Remédios.

It reopened with an immersive museum, sunset with music and the Paiol restaurant. It is one of the few sunset spots in Noronha with full facilities.

Tickets and hours

The ticket costs R$ 100, at a single price on the official sales website. If you still need to buy the Park ticket, you can get the Park + Forte package for R$ 292 (Brazilians) or R$ 484 (foreigners). The ticket is valid for 10 consecutive days, so you can come back another afternoon without paying again.

The fort is closed on Mondays. This ticket is separate from the island fees: it doesn't replace the TPA or the National Park ticket, which you can understand better on the fees page.

When it is worth it

The best time is late afternoon. You visit the museum, stay for the sunset with music and, if you like, have dinner at Paiol, which is in the high price range and requires a reservation.

  • Rainy day: it is one of the best Plan Bs on the island, along with the Museu do Tubarão and Tamar.
  • With children: the guide's family itinerary uses the fort as a light end-of-day outing.
  • Couples: the sunset and dinner at Paiol combo makes for a special evening without leaving the Vila.

Forte Noronha or Forte do Boldró?

They are different outings. Forte do Boldró is free and has the most beautiful sunset, with Morro Dois Irmãos in the background. Forte Noronha charges admission, but offers a museum, music and a restaurant in one place.

In a week, you can do both. See more ideas in tours.
