What the Projeto Tamar in Noronha is

The Projeto Tamar runs a visitor center in Boldró, with an exhibition on sea turtles. Every night there are free talks at 8pm about turtles, sharks and dolphins.

It costs nothing and helps you understand what you see in the sea during the day.

How to fit it into your itinerary

The classic combination is the sunset at Forte do Boldró followed by the Tamar talk. Both are in Boldró.

  • Rainy day: Tamar, Forte Noronha and the Museu do Tubarão save the afternoon.
  • After a busy beach day: it is a relaxed evening outing, sitting down.
  • First days: it is worth going early in the trip so the children can recognize the animals in the sea.

With children

Children love Tamar. In the guide's family itinerary, it comes on the evening of the second day, after the Ilha Tour and a nap at the pousada.

To keep them interested, turn the week into a mission: count turtles at Sueste, photograph fish at the Porto and then ask your questions at the talk.

Turtles: rules that apply to everyone

Don't touch, don't chase and keep your distance from the turtles. In 2025 a tourist was fined R$ 10 thousand for touching a turtle.

The green turtle nesting season runs from December to June, mainly at Praia do Leão, where the nests are marked by Tamar.
