How to get to Ponta da Sapata

Ponta da Sapata can only be visited by boat. Trips leave from the Porto de Santo Antônio and follow the Mar de Dentro to the island's southwestern tip.

On the way you pass the secondary islands, Cachorro, Meio, Conceição, Boldró, Cacimba, Baía dos Porcos and Baía dos Golfinhos. Most boats anchor at Sancho for snorkeling.

The passage between the Sapata rocks usually closes the route before heading back.

Shared boat or speedboat

The shared boat carries up to about 30 people, has a fixed route and costs R$ 300 to R$ 390 per person, for about 4 hours.

The private speedboat costs R$ 2.400 to R$ 2.900 for the boat for 4 hours. It pays off from 5 or 6 people or for families with a baby. Compare everything in boat trip.

The life vest on the speedboat is a safety vest and is not meant for floating. Drinks and snorkel gear are usually at your own expense.

When to go

The trip depends on the Mar de Dentro. From August to November it is calm on most days. In January and February, the swell cancels trips on some days.

Book the boat for the second or third day of your trip. If the sea doesn't cooperate, there is still time to reschedule. See the calendar in when to go.

We did this

We booked a 43-foot private speedboat and left the Porto heading to Ponta da Sapata, passing the Mar de Dentro beaches. We anchored at Sancho to snorkel, with a fish barbecue on board. We went in October, with the Mar de Dentro calm.
