The boat trip in Noronha follows the Mar de Dentro from the Porto to Ponta da Sapata, with dolphins along the way and a stop at Sancho. Seeing the island from the sea is a must.

Boat trip route

The boat trip leaves the Porto and passes the secondary islands, Cachorro, Meio, Conceição, Boldró, Cacimba, Baía dos Porcos and Baía dos Golfinhos, up to Ponta da Sapata.

The dolphins almost always accompany the boat, but nothing is guaranteed. Most boats anchor at Sancho for snorkeling.

Shared, sunset or private speedboat

  • Shared boat: up to about 30 people, fixed route and a stop of around 40 minutes at Sancho. Food not included.
  • Sunset at sea: departs around 3pm, with planasub, a swim and sunset at sea.
  • Private speedboat: just your group, from 9 to 18 people depending on the boat, with a bathroom, shade and a flexible route within the rules. A fish barbecue is common in the package.

The private boat pays off from 5 or 6 people or with a baby. For a couple, the shared boat delivers 80% of the experience for a fraction of the price.

When to book

Book the boat for the second or third day. If the sea doesn't cooperate, there are still days to reschedule. From December to March, the swell can cancel trips on the Mar de Dentro on some days.

Always ask about the cancellation policy. Compare formats in tours.

What we learned on the speedboat

  • The life vest on the speedboat is a safety vest and is not meant for floating: bring or rent your own.
  • Drinks and snorkel gear are usually at the customer's expense.
  • Read the cancellation policy: ours refunded 100% up to 7 days before and nothing the day before.

We did this

We booked a 43-foot private speedboat from the Porto to Ponta da Sapata, with a stop at Sancho and a fish barbecue on board. With a baby, shade, a bathroom and food on the boat made all the difference. It was the expense that paid off most on the trip.
